This past week I started occasionally posting edit logs, recounting the work I did that day. I’ve only done this twice (I think?) and I see the potential of it as a personal document, as well as a reference for future editors/internet archaeologists.
In a perfect world, I would post one of these every single day. However, I already have an assortment of daily habits that I do do every single day (I said doo-doo). Many of these habits are tracked via app, software, or old-fashioned pen and paper.
In the over ten years I’ve spent tracking habits, I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve largely forgotten that at some point habits should become habitual. Non-voluntary. Performed without forcing performance. That is to say, they go from being tracked behaviors to maximize adherence and accountability, to simply behaviors.
From the get-go, I want this to be my approach with the edit logs. I won’t post them every day because sometimes I’ll forget or I’ll be too fucking tired and won’t have time for that shit, but the goal is to regularly post them. But here’s the catch — I’m not going to track them. I’m not drawing Xs on my calendar or setting reminders or any bullshit like that. I’m just going to TRY to consistently do them.
Is this a good idea? Who knows?! But I’m going to try. This blog post is basically a statement of intent, transforming this fleeting thought into a solid objective.
